Decking New Halls

Our new home in Woodstock, CT

By Chelsea Baum, Quiet Corner CT, Macaroni Kid Publisher December 11, 2019

When did your house feel like your home? When you first moved in, where did you unpack first? Was there a moment where it sunk in that it was really yours? Our family has moved to Woodstock, CT and we're settling into our new space. The babies are relishing their new room and sudden ability to crawl in opposite directions of one another - typically toward an electrical outlet. Our days are busy as always with bottles, naps, changes, and bedtime routines. It only took me a few days to realize even though we were in a new house that the laundry followed us here! I have heard some moms joke about going on "vacation" with little ones and describing it as "same chores, different view".  The adage really did make me laugh on a trip this summer when I scrubbed bottles in our hotel sink and looked out the window to a Vermont vista. But the new view really helps all the parenting chores! And so does the company. Proximity to our families makes us feel a bit less daunted by this new space, new jobs, and new realities of caring for our baby twins. I'm seeing the area with fresh eyes after time away and I'm completely charmed. When you look around the quiet corner you'll see an incredible amount of generosity, support, and sweetness. There are so many events and organizations to help celebrate our area. I feel very lucky to keep track of so many of them here on Quiet Corner Macaroni Kid. I hope you'll continue to check out our event listings and tell your mama friends. Have an event to promote or a business, mama, or activity that needs some highlighting? That's why I'm here! I'd love to help spread the word. As much joy as I find in unpacking our boxes (not really!), we'd love to get out as a family and discover all the treasures in our area.

Take a look at the event listings below and an article with an alternative to the ever-demanding Elf on the Shelf! Next week I'll be so excited to share an interview on how to maximize play and learning in your playroom space.
