By Rosemary K, Macaroni KID Woodstock & Norwich February 16, 2024

Macaroni KID Woodstock is happy to have the opportunity to interview newly licensed daycare, Little Rascals, a daycare in Danielson, CT, which is owned and operated by Abby Connolly. I enjoyed talking with Abby about her daycare and how she can provide a much-needed service to families in the Quiet Corner.

Macaroni KID Woodstock (MKW): What made you become a home daycare provider?

Abby: I have babysat and cared for children since I was a teenager and worked as a nanny in high school. I have also been a Personal Care Aide (PCA) for a local company; however, due to the cost of daycare for my children, I decided to open a daycare to have more time with my kids and bring in an income for my family.

MKW: What certifications do you have?

Abby: I have CPR and First Aid certifications and a Medication Administration Certificate. The medical administration certificate allows me to administer any medication safely to children during their time in my care.

MKW: How can parents prepare their kids for daycare? And what can they expect when they hire you?

Abby: Before accepting children into my daycare, I do my best to meet with parents and their children to ensure we’re a good fit. My children are usually there as well. Regarding how parents can help their children prepare, parents can communicate with their children about new experiences and meet new friends.

Parents can also be assured that we have a consistent but flexible schedule. When things come up or something changes, we quickly adapt to the situation. Likewise, parents will be given daily updates through an app on their smartphone or iPhone. This communication involves highlights of the day and sometimes pictures of their children so they can have the peace of mind that their children are well cared for throughout the day.

MKW: What types of play, learning experiences, and socialization do you offer?

Abby: Early child development play, dramatic play, arts, constructive play, and more! The children in my care have a variety of toys, books, and activities to experience, in addition to playing outside and taking walks when the weather is cooperating.

MKW: What ages do you care for? And what hours are you open?

Abby: 12 months to 4 years old during the day and before and after school care for children as needed. I’m open Monday through Friday from 7 am until 5 pm.

MKW: How can parents reach you to learn more about your services or to apply?

Abby: My daycare is called Little Rascals, and parents can reach me at 860-207-5475 or by email at lilrascals12345@gmail.com
